Wildlife Center of Salt Lake Fall Youth Art Contest

2024 Theme: Beginnings

Goals

  • To inspire, recognize, and spotlight K-6 youth skill and talent through their interest in wildlife

  • To encourage K-6 youth to express themselves through creative arts while cultivating awareness and empathy for wildlife thereby increasing actions for animal conservation in Utah

Eligibility

  • To be eligible for the contest, student artwork must depict a native animal species that lives or migrates through Utah

  • Please use the helpful lists below to identify eligible animals. You can always email us info@wildsaltlake.org to ask if you are unsure! List of websites for examples:

  • CornellLab ebird website (can access bird sighting with free account)

  • Utah checklist of birds

Artwork

  • Students’ artwork must be original. Computer-generated images and traced images will not be judged. It is critical that submitted artwork not be overly derivative of images found on the Internet, in print media, or elsewhere. To avoid copyright infringement, works thought to be copies will be disqualified as will work which has been traced. Computer-generated images are currently ineligible

  • Accepted mediums: crayon, ink, acrylics, oil paint, pastels, water color, colored pencils, scratchboard, color marker, chalk, pastels, charcoal, pencil, or paper collage

  • To ensure the image submitted best represents the artwork, please provide a high quality representation (scan or photograph) of the work only. Please avoid including distracting backgrounds which detract from the actual artwork, such as a hand holding the art, the room behind the art work or a frame/mat around the work. Please orient the image in the direction the artwork should be viewed (i.e. not upside down, at a 90 degree angle, etc.)

  • Youth artist’s first name and last initial will be used to identify the artist

 

Submitting Artwork

  • Submissions will be accepted October 15 to November 12 2204

  • Artwork must be submitted via email to info@wildsaltlake.org with the SUBJECT: Fall YAC (accepted files are pdf, png, jpg, and heic)

  • Please include: Artists first name and last initial and grade category (K-2, 3-4, 5-6)

  • Submission of the artwork grants Wildlife Center of Salt Lake a non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free license to publish your student’s/child’s artwork in WCSL’s editorial, educational, and promotional print and digital materials, in our promotional and educational posts to social media, printed and posted at our physical location, and for all other lawful uses in furtherance of the mission and vision of WCSL. All published artwork will be credited with a copyright notice in the following form: “© Artist’s first name and last initial”

  

Prizes

  • Category winners: one winner from each category (K-2, 3-4, 5-6)

  • Each winner will receive: 1) art will be printed and displayed in the lobby of our physical location and published in our annual report and 2) category ribbon

  • Grand prize winner $25 gift certificate to art store
